The following list is a general explanation of the picking modes handled by BPS. See the next chapter for concrete modes supported by BPS.
| Delivery Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| Direct | Articles are delivered directly from seller/producer to the shop, without going to the distribution center. |
| Cross docking | Articles are delivered to the distribution center preconfigured in logisic units for each shop. No checking of quantity or quality in the distribution center. |
| Flowthrough | Articles are delivered preconfigured per sum order of all shops, mixed shops on one logistic unit are possible. No stocking, but immediate redistribution. Quantity/quality checking and registration in the distribution center. |
| From stock | Traditional warehous picking where the worker collects all articles for a shop from the stock. Special applications are available for small order picking, where the articles of multiple recipients are collected in one pass though the stock. |
| Two-stage stock | The total orders of a set of shops and articles are collected from stock and brought to a prepare location (intermediate stock). There the articles are collected for each shop like from stock, but now with much shorter lanes. |
| Two-stage distribute | Combination of stock and flowthrough: The total orders of a set of shops and articles are collected from stock and brought to a prepare location (distribution zone). There the articles are distributed into packages or onto pallets of each shop. |
| Ad-hoc (self service from stock) | User scans a stock location and picks the article, usually supplies for internal / production use. No order needs to be created in advance, it is created on the fly while picking. |
These are the currently supported preparation modes.
